Coated

Great long coats at Celine Pre Fall. Love how long and slender everything is, the coat, the bag, the shoes, etc.
I also love the razor pleats on this leather skirt.

Isn't it lovely

I love the simplicity and beauty of the packaging for this bakery in Mexico City.

The Ultimate Upholstery

My favorite architecture professor Filippo designed this lovely home, but I can't get enough of the rock-like seating in the right corner. Wayne sums up how I feel about these bad boys with the following statement:

Lady and the Landscape

MFAMBAMFAMBAMFAMBA

"For the artist possesses the ability to breathe soul into the lifeless product of the machine, and his creative powers continue to live within it as a living ferment. His collaboration is not a luxury, not a pleasing adjunct; it must become an indispensable component in the total output of modern industry." -Walter Gropius

Poster Boy

Love the use of text and photography in these football posters by Zoran Lucic.

Falling Short

I love the random stuff I find on Netflix online. The latest gem I've unearthed from the late 90's is the comedy central show Primetime Glick with Martin Short. His bizarre references and vocab are a wonder to behold. The best interview show by far.

my life at the moment

The 80's, 90's and Today!

Cameron has been singing this Temple of the Dog song on and off for the last week and I can't get it out of my head. Plus it's one of those songs where I only know the first few lines, making it all the more painful to play over and over in my mind. On the bright side it reminded me to watch this great Eddie Vedder cameo on Portlandia.

Narciso!

Kohl's always makes me think of the Daisy Fuentes collection for some reason. I've never been tempted to shop there until I had a lightening bolt shoot across my screen in the form of an ad for Narciso Rodriguez for Kohl's. OK perhaps that's a bit dramatic, but I love love love his clothes and heaven knows I can't afford anything that has appeared on a runway, so this is my chance! Here are my favorite looks (also I love that the model looks like she's in her 30's).

A Case of the Blues

A cool shirt from 3.1 Philip Lim. It looks like a mash up of denim and it reminds me a bit of my mother-in-law and her impressive ability to patch up even the most dire pair of jeans. I'm not a huge fan of the pants or shoes but I think the shirt would look great with a nice pair of black pants.

stairway to heaven

Jamie Kripke: Alps 40
I've been missing the mountains of Utah out here in flat as a board Texas. This place it nuts, I have yet to encounter even a single hill. When I came back to UT for a friends wedding last week, seeing the landscape was like a breath of fresh air and it definitely felt like home.

Geometric Food Art

Apparently this is a thing, who knew?

Atkins Diet Inducer

I tend to post things that I find visually appealing, but in honor of Halloween I present the most disturbing image I've seen in a long time. Behold the sexually transmitted infection cupcakes (including herpes and genital warts) available now at London pathology museum bakery.

Eames at Home

I love Renzo Piano's description of the Eames house:
This is a place where you can live out your dreams of happiness, surrounded by your family.

Amazing

As an adolescent growing up in Utah I dreamed of many things including living in Paris some day and more immediately having a trampoline in my backyard like all the rich kids in the neighborhood. Now these two seemingly disparate desires have met up in one awesome looking bridge design for the city of Paris. If they build it I will come.

Pic me up

I love these aerial pics by Giles Price of the construction leading up to the London Olympics. I also randomly love the name Giles. Not sure why I like the name since the only Giles I'm familiar with was a contestant on Project Catwalk, the British cousin to Project Runway that I used to watch in college on youtube in five minute increments.

Dressed Down

A great mix of formal and casual from Dries Van Noten.

Spaced Out

I love this painting by Nathalie Guinamard. A very cool play on interior domestic space.

Someone get me a macaroon stat!

Last night I watched the documentary Kings of Pastry about the French MOF pastry competition. It was the perfect tired end of the day viewing, complete with nice French cafe music and people making incredible looking deserts only to throw them in the garbage and proclaim that the sugar wasn't quite right. Cameron came home right when I started to become teary about a poor chef who shattered his sugar sculpture and began sobbing in the kitchen. What can I say, it had been a long day.

Dressed Up

This dress from Theory is odd but I like its strange proportions.
Also I have to give a shout out to this other look from the collection which reminds me of my morning uniform of sweatpants, robe, dirty hair and of course black high heels.

mother, mother, mother

If you're a mother like me who loves my kids more than anything but is exhausted about 90% of the time and am constantly beating myself up about not enjoying the time I have with my kids and instead find myself wishing I lived in France so I would have access to free high quality child care then this article is a must read.

Details details

My step mom Marcela has been so wonderful to us since we arrived in Houston, helping out with the kiddos and arriving with dinner for us on her birthday when the boys ended up being sick for the hundredth time since we've arrived. I decided that I needed to find a nice gift to express our appreciation and decided on a book of photographs of Carlo Scarpa's architecture. I have a small book about his work that I purchased during my semester abroad and I treasure it. My book is in black and white and when the new book arrived for Marcela I was amazed at how much color added to the interest and detail in his work. I love the seemingly simple geometry's he utilized and how thoughtfully and minutely executed they are, every small crevice in his designs are artistically considered.

Starting Off

New York fashion week starts today and here is my favorite look so far. This skirt from Creatures of the Wind is so full of humor and I love the pairing with an Amish looking button up. I always feel a little silly wearing girly skirts and this skirt embraces that silliness with pink butterflies and jeweled appliques to boot.

Homebody

I love this shot from Tom Archer's 'Nothing New' series.

Bigger is Better

I'm not sure this post counts as something that inspires me, it's more of an observation, but here goes. I was driving the boys over to a park in the neighborhood next to ours (we live in a predominantly Hispanic area just outside of Bellaire which is a neighborhood predominantly landscaped by Hispanics) and I couldn't believe just how big every house was in relation to the lot size. It looked like the houses were made of that expanding foam stuff and just ballooned up to fill the entire space. I guess it makes sense to have a lot of indoor space since the summer weather is so inhospitable. I'm sure I'll get used to it after a while but at the moment I continue to be amazed at these houses that look like they're on steroids.
